I am a recent post-Doc working for the Abbot of Downside Abbey, Dom Aidan Bellenger OSB, just outside the city of Bath.
Downside is a minor basilica thereby enjoying several pontifical privileges and, as the oldest establishment of the English Benedictine Congregation (EBC), primus inter pares of all the Benedictine monastic foundations under the EBC.
Having spent ten years researching English Catholic history in its national and international contexts at the University of York and Ushaw College, Durham, I took up the post of Director of Historical Research at Downside in November 2008.
I am a Director of the Catholic Record Society which remains the premier society for the study and publication of English Catholic historiography.
My aim is to encourage a younger generation of scholars to explore the rich cultural heritage of the English Catholic communities in the British Isles and the cross cultural tapestry of the communities as exiles on the Continent.
